Tom's 20th Birthday

Weeks before my 20th birthday, I designed my own yearbook for the Centre's 20th anniversary, and it had 50 pages.

On my 20th birthday, the presents I achieved were sweets, money, stationery, car books, cards, etc.

I was down in County Clare, in Ireland on my holidays, with my family.

NEW KITCHEN

There will be a new training kitchen at the centre. Three people will be helping with the cook to serve soup and sandwich meals. Everybody seems to enjoy working there and hopefully it will help them find work in the future.

ELLON THROUGH OUR EYES BOOK PUBLISHED

The Ellon Through Our Eyes books have finally been published. There will be 100 copies, priced at least £4. The launch of the book will be on Wednesday 1st August. Lots of people want to buy the book. We're very proud and relieved!!

Life Through A Lens Update

This morning, we met with Colin Tennant and volunteers involved with the Life Through A Lens Project.

Our Wednesday morning college course has now finished. We enjoyed learning about using the internet with Dhugal.

Our book Ellon Through Our Eyes is now at the printers and we are keeping our fingers crossed it is going to be ready for the centre's 20th anniversary.

Ellon Through Our Eyes Redesign

I am redesigning the Ellon Through Our Eyes book by adding some pictures, including Reminiscence Group, and adding some text. We won't have page numbers until the book is finished. The book would have approximately 50 pages.

Weekly Report

We've been giving references for the Ellon Through Our Eyes book. (Grrrrr!).

We are also having ideas on what they are going to add into the big Centre Scene newsletter.

We went out several times with Colin last week and he taught us how to use cameras better.

A lot of us joined in the sponsored walk round Ellon on Friday. Using our photography skills, the photograph of the group doing the sponsored walk was at the old Ellon bridge.

I was going to get an old register for the list of the service users for my yearbook, which I designed at home.

That's all for now, we're enjoying the sunshine!!!!

  • Tom's Yearbook, which he made at home
  • Disability Sport
  • Sponsored Walk
  • 20 Good Deeds Sponsor
  • Ellon Through Our Eyes Book

Colin's Photography Workshop

We've been doing a lot of work with Colin Tennant on the Life Through A Lens Project. We were out on Monday night, Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Colin brings the rain with him. We took pictures of the river, the bridges, the Ellon Editors team, the bus stop, the car park and entrances to various shops in Ellon, and hoping to go for a day out with him. We are getting on well with the Ellon Through Our Eyes book (final draft is hopefully being printed off). We've also viewed pictures on a slideshow. We have also learned how to use our new cameras and we think they are really good.

Colin Tennant

Colin Tennant came this morning and he was showing everyone how to use the new cameras, which we got from the DALNIA committee. Thank you to DALNIA for funding these.

He'll be coming back to Ellon on the week beginning, Monday 14th May 2012, and he will visit Drop-In as well as going out and taking photographs with the Ellon Editors Group.

He'll be coming to the centre from 1PM to 3PM on Wednesday 16th May and 10AM to 12PM on Thursday 17th May 2012.

We hope the weather will be better when Colin comes back so we could get out to take some photos.

Ellon Through Our Eyes Book

The Ellon Editors Team have felt that we write up a book and call this Ellon Through Our Eyes (E.T.O.E.) as a project for our 20th Anniversary to celebrate of many years at the centre. We're getting help from an artist/photographer called Colin Tennant linking in with Life Through A Lens. It's helping the community on barriers and things we like about Ellon and know about Ellon.

Buchan Community Radio

This is Buchan Community Radio, who we visited last Thursday, 15th March for part of the Community News issue 49 magazine.

Life Thru A Lens: Photographer/Artist, Colin Tennant

I am 29 years old and live in Glasgow. I will be working in Ellon on the "Life Thru A Lens" project along with Mark Mitchell and Nicola Twine. Mark's job title is a community planning officer and Nicola's job title is community learning and development officer. Colin Tennant came for an interview for this project and two members were on the interview panel. I am very much looking forward to working with the different community groups in Ellon. I am also looking forward to helping the Ellon Editors develop their photography skills. Addressing barriers that individuals may face in their community.
